GAIL EMMS MBE
Olympic Silver Medallist | Former England Badminton Star & National Coach | Author | Global Keynote Speaker & Event Host
Gail Emms MBE is an Olympic silver medallist and former professional badminton player whose remarkable sporting career has seamlessly evolved into a successful role as a motivational keynote speaker, broadcaster, and event host. Drawing on her experiences at the highest levels of international sport, Gail inspires audiences to pursue excellence, overcome adversity, and achieve their goals with confidence and resilience.
First selected to represent England in 1995, Gail combined elite sporting ambition with academic achievement, graduating from Kingston University in 1998 with a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science. Supported by National Lottery funding from UK Sport, she went on to become a full-time professional athlete and quickly established herself as one of Britain’s most accomplished badminton players. Her success on court played a significant role in raising the profile of badminton across the UK, while her professionalism and determination made her a powerful role model for aspiring athletes.
Gail’s career is marked by outstanding achievements on the world stage. She won Olympic silver in the mixed doubles at the 2004 Athens Games alongside partner Nathan Robertson, before claiming gold at the 2004 European Championships and the 2006 World Championships. In the same year, she secured Commonwealth Games gold, further cementing her legacy as one of Britain’s most successful badminton players. Gail went on to compete at the 2008 Beijing Olympics before retiring from professional competition. In recognition of her contribution to sport, she was awarded an MBE in the 2009 Birthday Honours.
Following retirement, Gail transitioned into a dynamic media and speaking career, becoming a respected voice of badminton through broadcasting and commentary roles, as well as serving as a former coach with Badminton England. In 2024, she added author to her accomplishments with the publication of The Lost Lionesses: The Incredible Story of England’s Forgotten Trailblazers — a powerful and deeply personal account of the pioneering England women’s football team that competed in the 1971 World Cup, told through the players’ own voices. The story holds special significance for Gail, as she is the daughter of the team’s leading striker.
A passionate advocate for women in sport, Gail Emms is a compelling and articulate speaker whose after-dinner talks and keynote addresses resonate with audiences across industries. Whether speaking at corporate events, conferences, or sporting forums, she delivers authentic, inspiring messages on leadership, teamwork, resilience, and high performance. Driven by a desire to empower the next generation, Gail continues to break boundaries as an athlete, mentor, author, and speaker — making her an exceptional addition to any event seeking inspiration from an Olympic champion.
